Midget/Sprint car - Auckland
We started the night off pretty good by winning the fist midget heat race. We then jumped in the sprint car and finished a very close 2nd in the first sprint car heat. The second round of heats, we finished 6th in both classes. We started 9th in the midget feature but only ran a couple laps and pulled in due to a mechanical failure. We also had some issues with the sprint car but we were able to limp it home for a 4th place finish. Hopefully we'll be able to get both cars repaired this week and have a good weekend at the next event this coming weekend.

New Zealand season under way!
The New Zealand racing season kicked off a couple weeks ago for us at Tauranga. This season we'll be doing double duty a lot of nights driving both the sprint car and a midget. We didn't quite have the sprint car ready for Tauranga so we raced the midget only. We ran 2nd and 3rd in our heat races, then started 14th and worked our way up to 3rd when we had a mechanical failure causing a DNF.
On Nov. 3rd we kicked the season off at Springs Speedway in Auckland. The midget wasn't quite back together so we only raced the sprint car. We ran 2nd and 3rd in our heat races and started 4th in the feature event. We got off to a good start and took over the lead around lap 5, we then pulled out to about half a straightaway lead but slipped up a little attempting to pass some lap cars and clipped the wall, bending the right rear wheel. The vibration from the bent wheel slowed us down a little and we ended up getting passed and finished 2nd. Overall it was a good night with a new car and new engine, hopefully this past weekend was a sign of good things to come this season!

Knoxville Nationals
I'm sorry to report that we won't be participating in the Knoxville Nationals this year as planned. I was scheduled to drive for Clint Garner in both the 360 and 410 Nationals. However, last week Clint attempted to race the car I was scheduled to drive and due to a mechanical failure, the engine blew up. They tried to get it repaired, but the damage was too extensive and not enough time. We were going to run one of the Simpson's 410s from my New Zealand team, but without any laps in the USA this summer and losing the couple of nights we were counting on over the 360 races, we decided we will focus on our upcoming New Zealand season and try again for Knoxville next summer. I'll be floating around Knoxville during the Nationals, so if you are there and see me, stop and say hi.

Unless something comes up with Lucas Oil Products of New Zealand that will keep me traveling, I'll be heading up to the USA for a couple of weeks at the end of July. I'm scheduled to race the weekend before the 360 Nationals to hopefully knock a bit of rust off myself and shake the car down to make sure everything is ready to go on our nationals qualifying night. I'll be driving a back up car to Clint Garner. If I can get it around the track half as good as Clint as been running the last few years, we should be fine!
